Melania “Lonie” Ruggieri, 91, died on February 3, 2018 at her apartment at Brookdale Chambrel in Roswell, Ga. Lonie was the fourth of the six children of Angelina Leo Ruggieri and Archangelo Ruggieri of Kennett Square, Pa. She was born on March 13, 1926 at the family’s home in Kennett Square. Her father founded the Mushroom Transportation Company and owned several businesses. He was a founding member of the local Italian American Club. A graduate of Kennett High School in the class of 1941, she received B. S. and M.Ed. degrees from West Chester University. She taught elementary school for many years in Pennsylvania and later in Georgia. In 1971, Lonie married K.C. Eapen, a native of Kerala, India, and a professor of English literature. The couple made several trips to India and around the world. In the late 1970s, they moved to Roswell, Ga. Lonie taught fifth grade in the Cobb County School System while her husband was a professor at Clark Atlanta University. Survivors include her sister, Elaine Ruggieri of Charlottesville, Va., and dozens of nieces and nephews. Lonie was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Rosalie Ruggieri Wheeler, and her brothers Domenic, Arch, and Dino Ruggieri. Arr. by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, www.northsidechapel.com
